Which is more ethical or “fair-trade” ~ taking drugs from the Earth or from a lab?

Question is really about source, is it better to take from the Earth always or sometimes is it better from a lab? Thinking here about tons of people traveling to the Amazon for ecotourism and ayahuasca, mostly. Does it impact local habitats and communities? Is there an abundant supply? Is it ethical? Should they have stayed in Brooklyn and taken DMT at home? Maybe growing/making your own is the best way to know what you’re getting doesn’t have a harmful impact on the source or supply chain to you.

taking plants from the earth as medicine when possible vs drugs from a lab is more ethical. that was the question, right!?

I’d guess growing/processing your own drugs is probably as fair trade as it gets. But that’s a huge privilege, and becomes way bigger depending on the complexity of the process.
